What equipment can I rent?
| Equipment | Typical use | Rental price |
|---|---|---|
| Electric breast pump | Breastfeeding difficulties, premature baby, return to work | On request per week · On request per month |
| Crutches (pair) | Sprain, fracture, knee or ankle surgery | On request per week |
| Wheelchair | Temporary reduced mobility, convalescence, visiting relatives | On request per week |
| Walker (rollator) | Balance problems, recovery after a fall or an operation | On request per week |
Breast pumps are rented with the motor unit only: for hygiene reasons, the personal collection kit (tubing, breast shields, bottles) is bought separately and is yours to keep. We help you choose the right shield size, which makes a real difference to comfort and milk flow.
How does renting work?
- Call or drop in. We check availability and reserve the equipment for you.
- Bring your documents. An identity document and, if you have one, the medical prescription and your insurance details.
- Demonstration. We adjust crutches or the walker to your height, explain how to fold the wheelchair or assemble the breast pump kit.
- Pick-up or delivery. Take the equipment with you, or our driver brings it to your home.
- Extension or return. Call us to extend the rental; return the equipment clean during opening hours to recover your deposit.
Is equipment rental covered by insurance?
It depends on the situation and on who prescribes it. These are the general rules in Switzerland:
- Breast pump: with a medical prescription for a specific indication (for example a premature baby or breastfeeding difficulties), basic insurance (LAMal) reimburses the rental of a breast pump for up to 8 weeks, which can be extended by a further 8 weeks, within the limits of the federal list of medical aids (MiGeL). The personal accessory kit is bought separately.
- After an accident: if you are employed in Switzerland, your accident insurance (through your employer) usually covers the aids needed after an accident, such as crutches or a wheelchair, on prescription. Report the accident to your employer.
- Crutches and other walking aids: for adults, basic insurance only lists the purchase of crutches, not their rental, so a rental after an illness is generally at your expense. Other aids listed in the MiGeL may be covered when medically prescribed, after your deductible and co-payment.
- Supplementary insurance: some policies cover rentals that basic insurance does not. Check your contract.
We give you a detailed invoice that you can send to your insurer. If you are covered by an international organisation’s scheme or a foreign insurer, you can use the same invoice to claim reimbursement, according to the terms of your cover.
Advice from our pharmacists
- Crutches should be adjusted so that your elbows are slightly bent when holding the handles: we do this with you.
- For a new mother, a breast pump rental combined with advice from a midwife or lactation consultant works best.
- Visiting family who need a wheelchair for a stay in Geneva? Short weekly rentals are ideal.
- Need it delivered? See our home delivery service for the communes covered.
